This September, Ample Hills Creamery is celebrating Roald Dahl 100 by creating a Dahlicious Delight! Dahlicious Delights combines confectionary talents from across the country to make edible odes to the world’s #1 storyteller, Roald Dahl. We at Ample Hills Creamery are thrilled to be involved and proud to donate 10% of net proceeds to Partners in Health, a charity co-founded by Ophelia Dahl, Roald Dahl’s daughter.
Throughout the month of September, we will also be selling some of our favorite Roald Dahl books at our Vanderbilt and Gowanus shops. Stop in for a cone and leave with your own copy of Matilda.
On September 17th, our Gowanus location is hosting a party to celebrate Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday! Part of the nationwide Wondercrump Weekend-- this party will include a sundae bar, Dream Jar game, dress-up and crafts corners, and readings from Mara Wilson (star of the movie Matilda and debut author of Where Am I Now?), Paul Griffin (When Friendship Followed Me Home, Burning Blue), Abby Hanlon (Ralph Tells a Story), and John Marciano Bemelmans (the Madeline series). Mark your calendars! 12-4pm at our Gowanus shop | 305 Nevins Street
And perhaps most importantly, we also created a flavor inspired by Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox! It is available at our year-round scoop shops through September, à la carte for nationwide shipping and in this Phizz-Whizzing 4-Pack. The flavor was named and created via our social media channels; congratulations to @tartjenny! Mr. Fox’s Scrumdiddlyumptious Crunchy Cider Caramel Cream: ingredients locally imported from the farms of Misters Boggis, Bunce and Bean is available beginning today at our Vanderbilt, Gowanus, Gotham West Market, Brooklyn Bridge Park and Bubby’s High Line locations.
All the celebration is bittersweet, of course, coming so soon after the passing of Gene Wilder-- an actor whose portrayal of Willy Wonka-- captured the hearts, minds and imaginations of so many.
“Mr. Wonka: "Don’t forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he wanted."
Charlie Bucket: "What happened?"
Mr. Wonka: "He lived happily ever after.”
Please join us and our Brooklyn neighbors Baked, Four & Twenty Blackbirds, The Brooklyn Public Library, Baked Ideas and Doughnut Plant in celebrating the world of Roald Dahl-- a man whose imagination, creativity and whimsy continue to inspire.
