On National Ice Cream Day, we launched our 3rd Annual Tour de Hills. Our founders Brian and Jackie spent this sweet holiday completing Tour de Hills themselves! With a few lucky Amployees at their side, Brian and Jackie embarked on a quest to become Hillionaire Extraordinaires.
Here’s how it works. To become a Hillionaire and win a free scoop, all you have to do is take a travel to all nine of our scoop shops before Labor Day. Visit all nine in just one day, and you’ll earn many more prizes and the esteemed title of Hillionaire Extraordinaire. Now this might sound like quite a big endeavor (and a lot of ice cream!), but it’s worth it!
To find out what it’s like to complete this mighty task in just one day, we asked freshly minted Hillionaire Extraordinaire (and treasured Amployee) Jordan Slocum about his epic journey with Brian and Jackie to every Ample Hills scoop shop.
Starting early is important, as you can probably guess! Jordan says they “started Tour De Hills at 10:00 am sharp and officially became Hillionaire Extraordinaires at 10:15 pm, having visited every store and even stopping by our event cart at Opening Ceremony.” That’s over 12 hours of ice cream! They even went the extra mile and dropped by a 10th bonus spot—our exclusive National Ice Cream Day pop-up in Opening Ceremony’s Soho shop. Talk about dedication.
While its takes the perseverance of a true ice cream lover, Jordan thinks it worth it. “It’s a long day for sure, but enjoy it! Tour de Hills is a great way of not only seeing every Ample Hills scoop shop but a fun way to discover neighborhoods and community all within the boroughs of NY/NJ!”
Many Hillionaires use Tour de Hills as an opportunity to try all of our shop-specific flavors. Made with the neighborhood in mind, each of our scoop shops features its own flavor. Our Gowanus scoop shop features It Came From Gowanus; a salty dark chocolate ice cream with orange-scented brownie bites and crack’d cookies inspired by what could be lurking in the Gowanus canal. Paying homage to the neighborhood’s Greek history, our Astoria scoop shop is home to Nectar of the Queens, a honey cinnamon ice cream with chunks of authentic Greek pastries! When taking on Tour de Hills, why not try them all?
At Ample Hills at Riis Park Beach Bazaar, Jordan treated himself to their shop-specific flavor Cherry Lime Riickey as a float with froze! And he definitely recommends this boozy float, saying “The froze with a scoop of Cherry Lime Riickey couldn’t have been timed ANY better! Really was the perfect halfway celebration drink!”

Jordan also noted that doing Tour de Hills on National Ice Cream Day felt especially apt. ”The amount of National Ice Cream Day energy and Ample Hills energy was so uplifting!” What better way to get into the sugary spirit?
A quick shout-out is certainly due for our hardworking Amployees, who make every National Ice Cream Day so sweet. Thank you!
But Brian, Jackie and Jordan aren’t the only Hillionaire Extraordinaires so far. In fact, we’ve had a bunch of people join the Hillionaires Club in this first week alone!
